Early Rodders morning Cruise-in, LaCanada, CA

Lots of cool traditional rods show up at this event every week. And so do I.

As you’ve likely noticed from these pages, I make it my point to attend “breakfast cruises” or “Cars N Coffee” events all over the world whenever I can find one.

One configuration of my posse: Norbert on the left, then Paul, with the camera, who now lives in Oregon but was down visiting, Kirk in the striped shirt, and me, the fat guy, far right.

I love these deals, as they are the “perfectly formed” casual car show — get your car out of the garage, bring those fluids up to temp, meet up with your buds for an hour or so of BS, and a cup of coffee (or hot chocolate) in my case, to wash it all down. Takes and hour or two and you’re home in time to get on with your day, chores, Honey Do List or whatever.

Variety you want? We got your variety right here! Every weekend.

Most of these events are “run what ya brung” and “something for everyone” but I have up until now failed to share with you some photos and details of the version I attend nearly every Saturday morning, when I’m around home, for many years now.

The Early Rodders club is there every week with great t-shirts on sale cheap.

It’s run by the Early Rodders club, and couldn’t be more casual. The parking lot is at our local UA theater complex, and appropriately there is a bagel joint and a Starbucks on property, so everyone gets their snack of choice. When this all started some years back, 50-75 cars was a good day. Now 100 is regular, and I’ve counted up to 150, just about filling the lot.  Chilly days not a problem, but real rain calls the halt.

Every kid finds something to like at this cruise in.

And you see everything there; old trucks, muscle, VWs, Jags, Ferraris, Gullwings, lots of Porsches of all stripe, and You Name It GTs. Bikes too — everybody finds something to like and lots to talk about. There’s no admission of course, and it’s park anywhere you like. Just obey the rules of good breakfast cruise demeanor (don’t be a putz by taking two spaces, no speeding around the lot, and no burnouts on the way out. Just keep your ego in your pockets, walk around, and have a nice time). Families, kids, pets, and sig others welcome please.

When Pebble Beach opens up a class for original spec, preservation quality first gen Broncos, this one will win first in class. Freshly painted in soothing proper colors but otherwise original and immaculate down to the tags and stickers, this is what an early Bronc ought to look like.

So much to see, with a changing cast each week.

Where when? You can program the theater (UA La Canada 8. 1919 Verdugo Blvd. La Canada, CA 91011) into your nav and get to the right place. Every Saturday morning, unless its raining, beginning about 7:00 and pretty much over by 9:00.

I hope you enjoy these great Kirk Gerbracht photos, and I’ll see you there some Saturday morning OK?

Please don’t leave, lots more photos just below…

Just to prove that I too drink the Kook Aid, this is my own Mustang, at the Early Rodders Cruise.

Like I said, lots of Porsches on hand, early, new, stock, rodded, and ratted.

This Falcon convertible has been teasing us for years; its a real Sprint, which means the Mustang 260 V-8 / 4-speed combo, console and a big Rotunda tach up on the dash. Rare and valuable is this one.

Talk about variety: a Nash Cosmopolitan (as my friend Tracie calls them), a '41 Ford, a hot rod, and an Alfa Spyde, plus a pair of Porsches just in one tightly composed shot.

This handsome pair belongs to a most interesting couple: My guess is that both are easily in their 70s, and she drives the manual trans Vette, and he drives the SS-R, or sometimes his AMG Mercedes SL. Nice people and they enjoy their cars.
