Some of you know that I do some broadcasting work on television for the FOX family of networks. My main gig for what used to be SPEED is as a color commentator for the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auctions that take place in Scottsdale, AZ, Palm Beach, FL, Reno, NV, and Las Vegas, NV. I’ve done this for about six years now, and it’s absolutely one of the most enjoyable things I do professionally.
Many of you have noticed that SPEED, as such, has gone away. What was its own cable network has now morphed into the greater FOX Sports world, but the Barrett-Jackson shows will continue as they have before, on a combination of FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports 2, the National Geographic Channel, and perhaps other FOX outlets over time. We at this time have but one more event this year, of which we’ll broadcast 22 hours live, and that’s the B-J Las Vegas sale Sept 26-28.
Many of you have contacted me directly to ask about my plans with FOX for next year, and at this point, all I can say is that I don’t know for sure. I have expressed to my producers at FOX that it is my desire to stay with the team for 2014, but I suspect those plans and budgets are not yet finalized. Cross your fingers for me.
It takes about 100 people on site and on the ground at each Barrett-Jackson to put on the show, which runs from our Executive Producer to a local, hired hand that makes copies and takes people back to the airport. I can’t say enough good about this team. It’s a wonderful bunch of guys and gals that are a lot of fun, really know their stuff, are highly professional, and great to deal with. I’ve never been treated better on a movie or TV set.
