I wanted to show you photos from and tell you about this great event, which took place in early December, before talking about a holiday toy and fun raiser show seemed too strange in the new year.
Motor4Toys is an annual show held in a massive office complex parking lot dedicated to a great day with cars, and as a ginormous toy drive and fund raiser for underpriviledged kids. There are a lot of volunteers behind the effort, but the driver of it all is an enthusiast named Dustin Troyan. Troyan is also the key fig behind a well known San Fernando Valley, California cruise in called Supercar Sunday. He’s also the kingpin of a small automotive enthusiast publishing company and produces a free magazine that’s pretty well done, and I read every issue.
No matter, M4T’s goal was to gather 70,000 toys (no typo) for the 2014 holiday season. There’s no charge to get into the show, nor any cost to enter your car…except the donation of a new unwrapped toy. This gig now draws many thousands of cars and people, and the combined effort assembled a literal mountain of toys. It was a heartwarming site to see the piles and piles of stuff that people donated. Some very generous folks also donated a ton of money too; last I heard that kitty was up over $70,000.
I don’t know Dustin well, although we’ve communicated a few times about automotive publishing, but I commend him and his band of volunteers for putting this event on. It’s a lot of work for a lot of people, and certainly a high return on that investment.
Next year’s event will likely again take place in early December, and if you are anywhere near the left coast, you should check it out. It’s strictly a run what you brung deal, and you’ll see everything from rat rods to high end Porsches, Lambos, and LOTS of Ferraris.
