Back in Print: ISKY

I’m pleased to announce that my original Ed Iskenderian biography, which has been sold out of print for a few years now, has been reprinted in softcover and rereleased back into the current, in-print marketplace.  This does my heart good, as it was a very popular book, and a great American story.

Isky is one of the high priests of hot rodding, and it was my honor to work with the now 104-year-old hot rodding legend on his bio book.  We spent a lot of hours meeting at his office, or his favorite burger joint, talking about the birth of land speed racing, hot rodding, and the aftermarket performance industry of which he and his company were such an important foundational element of.

We talked (and write) about dry lakes racing, Bonneville, the early days of drag racing and the NHRA, the birth of the speed parts business — this was all so important, and so extra worthwhile because He Was There, when it all happened, and either had a front row seat to the action, and very often, was one of the guys and companies making it happen.  I’m pleased to say that the original book won a couple of significant automotive journalism awards, which not only was nice for me, but a worthy commendation recognizing Ed and his many worthwhile accomplishments.

He’s now been deservedly enjoined into several automotive Halls of Fame, and it’s with no sense of irony that I say “It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.”  It means a lot to me that we became friends throughout this process, and still keep in touch and meet up for a burger now and again.
